Live-Action 'Ghost In The Shell' Film's First Teasers Hit Web
Paramount finally teases The Major in a series of five, brief trailers for the upcoming action and cyberpunk film "Ghost In The Shell. "
Aired in separate timeslots during the finale of "Mr. Robot" Season 2, the teasers do not really specify any plot details, but they were enough to give the viewers a taste of how the film's aesthetic would be. However, it would be too early to tell if it captures the manga/anime's spirit, or otherwise.
Based on the manga and anime franchise of the same name, Masamune Shirow's "Ghost In The Shell" focuses on the exploits of Major Motoko Kusanagi and the elite counter-terrorism task force known as Section 9, as they combat different threats ranging from hackers to private paramilitary units.
The franchise spawned two comic book series, three animated series, and three animated films, which will be joined by this live-action outing, headlined by actress Scarlett Johansson, who plays The Major.
However, Johansson's casting was met with controversy, as fans questioned the ethnicity of the actress in inclination to the character. The production team, however, responded to the criticism, and has pointed out that the film features a multi-diversed cast, as it tackles the role of computers and AI in a global context.
Johansson will be joined by Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, Takeshi Kitano, and Tuwanda Manyimo.
"Ghost In The Shell" is slated for a March 31, 2017 release.
