Pokemon Company CEO Confirms Nintendo NX Support
Just recently, Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has confirmed that the company will be developing games for Nintendo's upcoming next-gen console, which is known thus far by its given codename, the NX.
The said confirmation was revealed through an interview with Ishihara via The Wall Street Journal. The Pokemon Company head mused that "the NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device."
As of writing, there are no concrete details laid out regarding the specifications and look of the NX. However, most reports point out to the console being a handheld unit with a TV component, though there are rumors pertaining to the NX as a tablet-based unit.
Furthermore, the WSJ quizzed Ishihara regarding the growth and evolution of the franchise.
"None of us really thought Pikachu was particularly special," Ishihara said.
The CEO also commented on the sudden rise of the mobile app "Pokemon GO," noting that it was incremental in the franchise's recent successes in part to the simplicity of its dynamics. He was also asked if there are future plans for the company to cross over to other platforms, to which he responded, "The chance of finding success in taking a product made for one platform and bringing it over to another is quite low."
Ishihara remained mum about the NX' details, but it is expected for the console to feature Zelda and Mario games as a part of its repertoire.
