Obama Administration Proposes Additional Autopsy of Michael Brown
As Obama administration tries hard to maintain peace in Ferguson,MO, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr, announced Sunday that a federal medical examiner would conduct an independent autopsy of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old who was shot dead Aug. 9 by Officer Darren Wilson, the New York Times reported.
The decision to hold an independent autopsy was due to "extraordinary circumstances" of the case and will be a part of the civil rights investigation the F.B.I is conducting, officials said.
A preliminary private autopsy performed on Sunday had found that Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager who was killed by a police officer was shot at least six times, including twice in the head, according to The Boston Globe.
The additional autopsy may help Obama administration to restore confidence in the African-American community, which has been protesting against the arbitrary handling of the case. The agitators are eager for an independent inquiry, according to The New York Times.
The Justice Department would also consider the results of the first state-conducted autopsy, said Brian Fallon , a department spokesman. There was no indication that federal investigators saw any problems with the local examination. The family has also had a private autopsy conducted.
One of the bullets entered the top of Brown's skull, suggesting his head was bent forward when it struck him and caused a fatal injury, according to Dr. Michael M. Baden, the former chief medical examiner for New York City, who flew to Missouri on Sunday at the family's request to conduct the separate autopsy, according to The Boston Globe.
Brown was also shot four times in the right arm and all the bullets were fired into his front, he said.
After spending two days in Washington, Obama is scheduled to return to Martha's Vineyard on Tuesday night to complete his vacation.
