Thrawn Debuts in Latest Trailer for 'Star Wars: Rebels' Season 3
After being teased in the initial trailer for "Star Wars: Rebels" Season 3, during the height of last summer's Star Wars Celebration event, Grand Admiral Thrawn finally reveals himself in a new promotional teaser for the show.
In recollection, Grand Admiral Thrawn is a character developed by Timothy Zahn for the Star Wars Expanded Universe, serving as an antagonist against Luke Skywalker and the rising New Republic, years after the demise of the Galactic Empire. He figured heavily in the novel "Heir to The Empire," as well as the well-received "Thrawn Trilogy," which saw the debut of another iconic EU character in the form of Mara Jade Skywalker.
"Headhunter" and "Sherlock" alumnus Lars Mikkelsen will be providing voice work for the iconic Star Wars villain, and you can hear his portrayal of the character via the clip below.
It's yet to be revealed as to how Thrawn will fit in to the "Rebels" storyline, but as far as the teaser goes, it would seem like the Empire has sought his strategic expertise and manipulative nature in a bid to kill off the spark of the budding Rebel Alliance.
On the other hand, it is interesting of note to ponder what lies next for the show's protagonists. Last season's conclusion saw Ezra Miller opening a Sith Holocron at the final moments of the episode. Most fans have speculated that this may pave the way for the young rebel's descent to the Dark Side. Meanwhile, Kanan Jarrus may need to cope to his new status quo, after receiving a blinding injury at the hands of a returning Darth Maul.
Since its premiere, fans are left to wonder as to how "Rebels" will connect with the new timeline, considering that the Expanded Universe has been rendered non-canonical a year ago. However, rumors point Ezra Miller as the young incarnation of Supreme Leader Snoke, Kylo Ren's master from "The Force Awakens." Either way, it would seem like we'll need to wait how the show pans out.
The third season of "Star Wars: Rebels" will premiere this October on Disney XD.
