Konami Has No Plans to Finish Metal Gear Solid V's Mission 51, Clarifies It's Not The Game's Ending

Despite receiving critical acclaim in part to its scale and visual dynamics, most gamers threw flak at Konami for cutting off "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's" purported conclusion: The infamous Mission 51.

While the game is surely packed with an impressive amount of 50 missions, Phantom Pain's ending has been a point of contention and debate across the gaming community, with most of the criticism pointing to the lack of closure of some characters' paths, and how they led to the original games' story. However, the inclusion of Mission 51 might resolve this longstanding concern, as hinted by its concept art, footage, and half-finished cut scenes, which were revealed in the previously released Collector's Edition of the game. Matters were further complicated with the departure of MGS series brainchild Hideo Kojima.

The discussion regarding Mission 51 is further mitigated with the impending release of the game's Definitive Edition. After taking to Twitter for the announcement of the said edition, some users have begun challenging Konami in a bid to see the game to its true conclusion.

When asked by one user if how long they'll need to ask for a more conclusive ending to the game, the official MGS account responded, "I'm afraid we do not have any plans to further develop Mission 51."

The account commented further on the issue, noting that "Mission 51 is additional story content that was cancelled before development finished, but its definitely not the ending."

A user then responded, "Mission 51 says otherwise."

The thread went on, with most of the respondents pressing the MGS account into a corner. The latter, however, remained steadfast to their side of the equation.

Serving as a prologue to the events of the first "Metal Gear Solid" game on the PS1, Phantom Pain centers on a younger Big Boss, and his exploits as a member of Diamond Dogs.

"Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - The Definitive Experience" is slated to hit shelves on October 11.
