Why did a user switch from an iPhone 6 Plus to a OnePlus 3? Here’s the story
After months of Apple rumours, news about the Apple iPhone 7 models are finally beginning to clear and today we have the first solid evidence from a credible source which claims that there are not two, but three iPhone 7 models planned this year. While earlier rumours and analyst claims pointed to the presence of just an iPhone 7 and an iPhone 7 Plus, there was news and images of another iPhone 7 Pro model, which was expected to pack in a dual camera module as well. Today's new iPhone 7 leak adds to the mess of rumours and comes after the recent price leak, which hinted at the presence of not two but three iPhone 7 models.
While I do understand that Apple is trying to find a balance between its design philosophies and the needs of the broader Android audience with the iPhone Plus models, being an iPhone 6 Plus owner makes me think that its not a good idea. The iPhone 6 Plus which is about 2 years old, is slow and showcases plenty of lag. Upgrade to an iPhone 6s Plus and one will still find a bit of stuttering, something that is not visible on the iPhone 6s models. The problem comes down to the resolution of the devices. The Plus models render frames at the same resolution as the iPad and scale down, while the smaller models do not. Apple knows this is a problem, which is why the iPads have more powerful graphics chips (hence the A8X and A9X). I can't understand why Apple didn't do the same for the Plus models.
The other issue is RAM. The 1GB of RAM on the 6 Plus is simply not enough, even for iOS. Background apps and tabs will close when you're using the device. The issue was largely resolved on the newer 6S and 6S Plus models with the inclusion of 2GB of RAM, but that still may not be enough for future-proofing the device.
With the iPhone 7 line-up, we were expecting exactly the same. A faster A10 chip and 2GB RAM for the iPhones and maybe an A10X for the expected iPads. Apple has taken note of the stuttering Plus models however and may have decided to fix it in the only way that Apple knows, by introducing an entirely new model altogether. The iPhone 7 Pro should arguably be the best choice out there if you're buying the next generation Apple device but however we feel things on a lighter note first should be bent before purchase just to be sure that Apple's retained promise of 7000series Aluminium or even maybe a better variant of the blocks are being put into Apple's latest phones.
