‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8, News Update: Is Elena Coming Back from Her Slumber to Rescue Damon

Season 7 finale of 'The Vampire Diaries' ended on a sad note for Damon and Enzo as the two vampires were caught by the evil monster inside the vault, who has possessed them completely. And now the duo is on a killing spree.

Fans are worried about their future and the upcoming season will revolve around the theme of the duo's rescue with Caroline, Stefan and Alaric teaming up with Bonnie to save the vampires. But the moot point is how will Bonnie save the two? She has lost her magical powers and it is not going to be easy at all as the monster seems quite powerful and evil.

Well, according to a popular fan theory, Bonnie will sacrifice herself to save Damon. Her sacrifice will cause Elena to wake up from her slumber as Bonnie's death is a prerequisite for Elena to shun her slumber and return to the present. And then Elena will use her power to save Damon and Enzo and bring them to their previous selves.

This theory has been doing the rounds for a while and the reason it is considered valid is because actress Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie on TVD, has announced that this will be her last season. So, it is clear that she is leaving the show. And what could be a better way for the show writers to accommodate her exit than to paint it as sacrifice. After all, it makes perfect sense for the storyline.

Also, since producer Julie Plec has confirmed Nina Dobrev's return for the series finale, it seems legitimate to kill Bonnie and bring Elena back from her sleep. But some are also saying that Bonnie will remain on the show and Nina Dobrev will return as Katherine.

Well, it is not clear if Bonnie will die but if she does, it would certainly break her fans' hearts. She is one of the most powerful characters on the show and has shown tremendous nerve under trying circumstances. Her loss would not go down well with viewers, for sure.
