Quarterback Jameis Winston Cleared in FSU Code of Conduct Hearing

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has reportedly been cleared of all the accusations he faced at a student code of conduct hearing in a sexual assault case two years ago.

The news was confirmed Sunday by The Associated Press, which claims to have acquired the documents.

A former Florida State University student had accused Winston of sexually assaulting her two years ago. Former Florida Supreme Court judge Major Harding wrote in a letter to Winston that the evidence was "insufficient to satisfy the burden of proof."

A year ago a similar decision was made by a prosecutor who had decided not to criminally charge the 20-year-old player as there was not substantial evidence.

A two-day hearing was held this month to decide whether Winston violated four sections of the code of conduct that included two for sexual misconduct and two for endangerment. The consequences for Winston ranged from a reprimand to expulsion from school.

The supposed victim can request an appeal within five days.

"We will consider an appeal but right now we feel a little duped. At some point we have to recognize that Florida State is never going to hold [Jameis] Winston responsible," Baine Kerr, one of the woman's lawyers, said in an emailed statement, ESPN reports.

Kerr further says: "Somehow Jameis Winston still wins. The order doesn't even follow the Student Conduct Code and it ignores the bulk of the evidence."

According to The Huffington Post, Florida State President John Thrasher released a statement in which he said that the University had especially selected judge Harding to remove any doubt about the reliability of the probe.

"He conducted a thorough Student Conduct Code hearing and reviewed more than 1,000 pages of evidence generated by three other investigations, and we would like to thank him sincerely for his service," Thrasher said.
