Woman Slaps Grandmother for Rejecting Facebook Friend Request, Arrested
A 27-year-old woman from Florida was arrested early Thursday for slapping her 72-year-old grandmother several times for refusing to accept her friend request on Facebook.
Rachel Anne Hayes, resident of Clearwater in Florida for assaulting her grandmother after they had a heated argument over a friend request on social networking site Facebook, says the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Hayes has been charged with aggravated battery on an elderly person and also a felony charge.
The elderly woman said that she did not want to accept her granddaughter's friend request because she didn't approve of the name Hayes was using on Facebook. She also said that she would accept the request if the young woman changes her name.
"The victim told Hayes she would be willing to accept the request if she would change the name," the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said in a news release, ABC News reports.
The objectionable name has not been disclosed as yet. Hayes went to her grandmother's house Wednesday to inquire about the denied friend request. On learning the reason behind the rejection of the request, Hayes became very upset and left. She returned some time later and while still standing on the front door started arguing with the old lady again.
The argument reached a point where Hayes slapped her grandmother "several times". The elderly was somehow able to lock the door and call the police. But by the time, the deputies reached the venue, the offender had left. She was later arrested by authorities.
According to New York Daily News, Hayes has been arrested three times before this incident, in Pinellas County. She was arrested for driving under the influence, violating probation and for disorderly conduct. In fact, when she was arrested the fourth time as well, she was under the influence of alcohol. She was later released on bail.
