Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama Break Up News: Couple Split After 6 Years of Dating

Demi Lovato, American singer quits it with Wilmer Valderrama, famous television personality.

The 23-year-old model, Lovato 36-year-old Valderrama took it to Instagram on Friday. They posted a joint statement on their Instagram accounts, calling the decision to break up after six years "incredibly difficult."

 "After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship," the joint statement began.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends," the statement continued.

"We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years."

To their fans the news of their breakup comes as a huge shock. The singer and actor never shied away from gushing about one another, whether it be through lovey-dovey Instagram posts, or heartfelt interviews.

Back in January with ET. Valderrama spoke fondly of the "Complicated" singer.

"You know, we've been best friends for about six years," he said at the time. "We haven't necessarily been dating for six years, but we have six years of friendship, and it's been beautiful."

Earlier this year, Lovato revealed the "hesitations" of Valderrama about their significant age difference.

 "He had some hesitations. Once I got older, we could be together," she said, adding, "He's my best friend."

There were rumors about a possible engagement, but Lovato isn't sure about it. But Lovato answered, "You'll have to ask him."

While Lovato called into a New Zealand radio station she said that she hoped to marry her beau soon, Lovato was as honest as ever. "I am very, very in love with him. I think-we will probably wait a little bit longer, but-if he asked tomorrow I would say yes," Lovato said.
