'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 may witness a revolution in the characterization of the villain.

Instead of the conventional TVD characters battling it out with vampires, witches or other dangerous human, the upcoming season will see a different negative character. However, there has been no official information on the mysterious monster playing villain.

In the last episode of the 'The Vampire Diaries', Damon Salvatore saved Bonnie Bennett but was surprised to hear the voice of Elena Gilbert - his girlfriend. Rather than backing away, he inched closer to her and fell into the trap and the monster in the Vault grabbed him. Later Enzo attempted to save Damon from the hands of the monster, but instead he got injured. Therefore, the question looms large - What is the new and unconventional bad character?

The episode 'Gods and Monsters' revealed the creepy hands of the monster. But, apart from that, there has been no revelation on the monster.

In an interview, the writer of TVD has revealed that the monster in the Vault would be the first villain the series. The monster is thousand years old and extremely powerful. Moreover, it tricks victims by using the voice of their loved ones to lure them inside the Vault.

Another question of significance is whether Damon and Enzo are possessed? There are many hypotheses around it - advocating the ferocity of the monster that tends to suck out all the good traits of the victim. Another theory as revealed by IGN states that both Damon and Enzo would wake up, and return back to themselves. It could also be the true love of Bonnie which could bring back Enzo from the clutches of the creatures.

Despite multiple possibilities and speculations, there is yet to be any official announcement on this from the cast. But there is no doubt on the fact that the Season 8 would be jam-packed with a lot of dark fantasy.
