While robots are nothing like humans, but a concept that they can be like us gave birth to an all new idea. The researchers explored an area where the robots behaved and lived just like humans. In this ecosystem, the researchers also created an option for a "dating spot." This is the place where the robots found their suitable mating partners.

The robots analyzed each other carefully and then decided to procreate with the help of Wi-Fi technology. The data that these robots sent out acted as "DNA" codes and these codes were then transferred to a 3D printer. The printer built new parts of a robot based on these codes, thus giving birth to a baby robot. The reports claim that these robots were designed as mechanical blocks that look the same but stemmed from mixed data obtained from its parents.

In a press release, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam revealed that this Robot Baby Project will help in space explorations, such as "the colonization of Mars."

According to project head, Guszti Eiben, this project is also a deeper look into evolution of things. He further describes it as "emerging new technology." This means that given the right environment, these robots are capable of evolving their behavior, brains and even bodies. Elben said that this research opens up new avenues for new discoveries in "robotics, artificial intelligence, space research, and even biology," Elben said.
