Miami Heat Rumors: How Would Kevin Durant Affect The Team?
In an attempt to rebuild a more formidable roster, the Miami Heat reportedly wants to sign in OKC star player Kevin Durant to the fold in the free agency season. The team would also offer max contract to center Hassan Whiteside and a juicier deal to Dwayne Wade to keep them in the team. The question looming on everyone's mind is how Kevin Durant would affect the team?
A few years ago, the franchise went on a serious hunt for talented players and ended up having LeBron James and Chris Bosh. With James on the roster, Miami successfully nabbed back-to-back NBA titles in 2012 and 2013 before the MVP went to play for the Cavs again. This time, the team is eyeing to get Kevin Durant to complete their offseason wish list. For most teams, Durant is a hard catch but for the Heat, getting Durant is still a possibility.
As per NBC Sports report, Dwayne Wade may need to accept a pay cut should Durant moves in to Miami or when Whiteside gets re-signed on a max contract. Wade will reportedly lose $53 million in a possible Durant deal and $34 million if Whiteside decides to continue with the team. The 34-year-old NBA All-Star, however, previously indicated that he is not purely motivated by money. At this stage in his career, Wade wants to add more NBA titles to his name and will work with players who can help him secure his legacy.
Currently, Kevin Durant leads OKC in tight series battle for the Western Conference crown where both teams tied at 3-3. The Thunder will face the Warriors in a decisive Game 7 after losing to the Warriors in Game 6- the highest rated game in the season. Durant will likely stay with OKC if they will successfully rout NBA's top two contenders for the title, the Warriors and the Cavaliers. To make way for Durant's entry to the roster, Heat may need to trade Goran Dragic to free up the much needed slot, Fansided reported.
Meanwhile, other teams are purportedly joining the fray to get Kevin Durant signed in including Atlanta Hawks and San Antonio Spurs, Hall of Fame Magazine stated. Before Miami decides to get Durant play for them, the team must first review their lineup before recruiting the highly sought-after free agent. The team is still trying to make up their minds on their current Chris Bosh saga following his recurring blood clot.
