Paris Lightning Strike Update: Children Battle to Survive after Getting Hit by Lightning in Paris Park
11 people were hurt by a lightning in Paris park on Sunday. Out of 11 people eight of them were children. One child is on life support. A sudden spring storm brought lightning upon a children’s birthday party.
Fortunately, Cmdr. Pascal Gremillet, an off-duty firefighter, was around a museum close by when he saw the commotion and found nine of the 11 victims lying unconscious. He took action immediately.
“He saw who was the most seriously injured. He did a quick triage of the victims. He did first aid. He alerted the rescue services,” according to Paris fire service spokesman Eric Moulin to the Associated Press. “Without his actions, it would have been much worse.”
"I did first aid (and) a heart massage," said Gremillet. He also said that one child's heart had stopped beating when he arrived.
Lightning also landed on a children's soccer match Saturday in Germany, giving the referee cardiac arrest where was revived afterwards.
One resident who lives close by the park witnessed the lightning hitting down said it was seldom to see such a wild storm crashing down the city.
“It was dramatic,” said Jean-Louis Laurens.
Tips to avoiding getting hit by the lightning
