Apple managed to raise $20 million in a holiday campaign for Product Red, according to Re/code that cited an internal email sent by Apple CEO to the employees.

"I'm thrilled to announce that our total donation for this quarter will be more than $20 million - our biggest ever - bringing the total amount Apple has raised for (PRODUCT) RED to over $100 million," Apple CEO Tim Cook wrote. "The money we've raised is saving lives and bringing hope to people in need. It's a cause we can all be proud to support."

Apple partnered with software developers who developed Product (RED)-themed apps and exclusive items. The proceeds from these apps were donated to Global Fund to Fight AIDS.

Apple also donates to Global Fund by selling its own Product (RED) iPod and iPad line.

In addition, the company also donated a part of sales of its retail and online stores during two of the biggest shopping days of the year - Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Re/code added.
