Manchester City on the Verge of Signing Gundogan to Commence £200 M Summer Splurge
Manchester City might won a trophy this season in the form of the Capital One Cup but according to the powers that be at the Etihad Stadium, this season has been 'unacceptable' considering the sort of money that was spent and according to the latest reports, the club are going to respond with a jaw dropping £200 million splurge this summer in order to boost the first team squad. Incoming manager Pep Guardiola would be given complete authority on the new players that he would like in the Manchester City team next season and the first player to make the switch seems to be Borussioa Dortmund's German defensive midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. Guardiola is a big fan of the German international and wants him to fortify the defensive midfield due to the rumoured departure of long itme idfielder Yaya Toure this summer.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the move for the German midfielder is going to cost the club around £18 million but the signing of Gundogan is only the start of a massive spending spree as Guardiola looks for reinforcements and upgrades for other positions. For instance, the former Barcelona manager believes that the club's long serving goal keeper Joe Hart does not have the skill to play a 10 yard pass form the back and hence wants to acquire Barcelona's Andre Ter-Stegen.
However, a player that Manchester City would really like to acquire as a part of their massive squad overhaul this summer is Juventus' French star Paul Pogba who has been in Guardiola's sights for quite some time. The midfielder is expected to cost around £70 million and City are prepared to meet the asking price since they believe that the player will improve their first team squad significantly. Manchester City have been after Pep Guardiola for close to 3 years and now that they have been able to bring him to The Etihad, they are going to back him to the hilt as he tries to create a dynasty at the club. In addition to that, the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Manchester United could also be one of the triggers behind the rapid spending that would help the club have a far superior team than their arch rival.
