‘Scandal’ Season 6, Spoilers and News Update: Does Shonda Rhimes’ “More Optimistic Episodes” Remark Indicate Olivia Pope’s Pregnancy
Season 6 of 'Scandal' will be delayed this year due to Kerry Washington's pregnancy and the news has certainly upset fans. But now they have something to cheer.
Show creator Shonda Rhimes has teased that the coming episodes of season 6 are heading towards a "more optimistic" direction. According to reports, she revealed that brighter days lie ahead for Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington).
She said that she is not sure if viewers can see it coming but she definitely feels an optimism existing in the show now. Sharing a little about her writing strategy, she said that has been trying to inject positivity in her shows of late, especially the recent episodes of 'Grey's Anatomy.' And now she wishes to use the same in 'Scandal.'
But to get that dose of positivity, fans will have to wait longer as Season 6 will not premiere this fall due to Kerry's pregnancy. The episodes have been also cut short, a strategy which was used by Shonda Rhimes in Season 3, when Kerry was pregnant with her first child. Also, the show creators did not incorporate her pregnancy in that season.
However, this time nothing of that sort has been confirmed and speculators are saying that it might find place in Season 6. And now that Rhimes has hinted towards the season moving into an optimistic direction, it gives more weight to the speculations.
Adding even more strength to the rumors is Tony Goldwyn's interview in which he talked about how much his "Scandal character", President Fitzgerald Grant wanted to start a family with Olivia. He also said that Fitz was utterly disappointed when Olivia went for abortion in November. However, his love for her saw him through and despite being pro-life, he took a 180 degree turn and accepted her decision.
So, will Season 6 also take a similar turn and incorporate Kerry's pregnancy in the storyline. Sounds a little difficult to digest, but one never knows. Only time will tell.
