LAPD Opens Criminal Investigation into Rape Allegations Against Bill Cosby

Police have opened a criminal investigation into some of the dozens of allegations of sexual assault that have been levied against Bill Cosby over the last few months.

The Daily Mail reports that the criminal investigation revolves around some women who have gone public with the allegations against Cosby, and other victims who have not talked to the media or publicly accused Cosby.

Many of the allegations against Cosby can not be prosecuted because they happened so long ago the statute of limitations on the crime has expired. This means that because so much time has passed between the crime and its reporting, Cosby can not be charged.

One of the cases under investigation because the statute of limitations has not yet expired involves a former Playboy model named Chloe Goins, who will give a statement to the Los Angeles Police Department sometime soon, according to The Daily Mail.

Goins says Cosby drugged and assaulted her when they were both at a Playboy mansion party. Goins says she passed out and awoke to see Cosby with his mouth on her feet as he pleasured himself. Cosby fled the room without a word when Goins regained consciousness.

She says she only made her experiences public after drawing courage and emotional strength from the other women who have spoken publicly about what Cosby did to them.

The Daily Mail says one part of the investigation will involve the execution of search warrants, presumably of Cosby's home, but also of the Playboy mansion. This is because a number of the accusations against Cosby say that the assaults took place at Playboy mansion parties.

Cosby has already settled civil suits filed against him by accusers, and if the police can gather enough evidence to press charges, it will be the first time that law enforcement and a criminal court tried to hold Cosby accountable for his actions.
