Grand Theft Auto is undoubtedly one of the gaming world's phenomenal franchises. It popularity proved immensely profitable over the years with more than 230 million copies reportedly sold and billions of dollar worth of sales. The most recent title, GTA 5, is quite a different story. Released on older platforms three years ago, the game continues to sell and has already hit 65 million copies to date.

GTA had its debut release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. The title found its way to newer consoles the following year plus a PC version a few months later. The latest versions and a slew of updates brought in a stream of enhancements and new features such as the first-person-view.

In Take 2's latest sales briefing, GTA 5's shipment increased from the 60 million figure reported last February earlier this year. With the latest figure, the game averaged 1.67 million copies sold a month according to Lazy Gamer.

If the number of copies shipped isn't convincing enough, the sales in dollar figure is just so ridiculously higher compared to other titles that came before it or any other video game churned out from someone else's creative mill.

As per Gazette Review, GTA 5 raked in some $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in merely three days following its debut back in 2013. The game has a three-character storyline, an online multiplayer setting, plus a number of game modes and a couple of other add-on activities to do throughout the map.

Meanwhile, Rockstar Games have something up its sleeves to surprise fans in the coming months. The game studio is teasing about adding "massive, feature-rich" content in GTA online, Game Spot reported. Also, Take 2 mentioned about some exciting new games that are slated to arrive soon. With GTA 5's success, fans are already expecting for an even better sixth iteration of the highly popular franchise.
