Boston Red Sox Trade: Give up Pitching Prospect for Anthony Varvaro
The Boston Red Sox have traded away their pitching prospect, Aaron Kurcz for reliever, Anthony Varvaro two days after he was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves. The deal between the two clubs also involved cash considerations.
In his four years with the Braves, Varvaro, 30, has been quite productive. Opponents hit .228 against him.
His career win-loss record is at 7-8 with an ERA of 3.18 and a WHIP of 1.25. He has a total of 142 strikeouts over 172.2 innings.
Right-hander Kurcz has also put up good numbers in the minor leagues. During his last season with Double-A Portland, the 24-year-old made 34 bullpen appearances with a 2.14 ERA. He recorded three wins, three saves out of six chances, and 54 strikeouts over 45 innings. Career-wise, Kurcz is 13-11 with a 2.81 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.
With Varvaro, the Red Sox's 40-man roster is full.
