WWE News and Rumors: CM Punk Not Doing Well As A UFC Fighter

For about one and a half years, former WWE Superstar and pro wrestling's longest reigning champion in the modern era CM Punk has been signed in by UFC to try his luck at mixed martial arts (MMA). Latest rumors suggest that Punk is struggling in his transition from being a pro wrestler to being a UFC fighter.

The UFC was hoping that pro wrestling world's 'best' will make a headway into MMA last year, however, multiple injuries staved off his chances of getting a match set for his first octagon fight.

His octagon debut was originally slated for summer or fall of 2015 but was again rescheduled because of his back and shoulder injuries. Other rumors indicated a debut match on June 6 at UFC 199 which was later moved to another date following a back surgery.

Despite news of repeated delays, Chicago-born Punk hopes that he'll finally have his first match before the year ends. In a recent interview, the ex-WWE champ, wants his maiden fight staged at Madison Square Garden in the Big Apple.

"In my mind, that card at the (Madison Square) Garden would be a nice second fight. But, I don't know how realistic that is because, again, I don't want to say things people are going to take to heart," Punk said in an interview with The MMA Hour.

It was previously announced that Punk would be slated to face UFC newcomer from New Jersey Mickey Gall for his maiden fight. After months of recuperation from a slew of injuries and recent surgery, Punk is not yet combat-ready.

As per Daily Wrestling News, Mickey Gall (2-0) is most likely to beat Punk on the octagon quite easily- an embarrassing prospect for the former WWE champion given his celebrity stature. The MMA promotion seemed to have been seduced by the idea of getting him in the fold to create media frenzy and generate more interest in the UFC. His MMA career at UFC might well be over anytime soon unless he recuperates and progresses enough for the transition.

The ex-WWE superstar's UFC debut match should generate media mileage despite the huge possibility of being defeated by Gall who is more combat-fit for MMA. Furthermore, father time is catching up on the 37-year-old former wrestling champ while 24-year-old Gall is still young and quite experienced after fighting in various MMA circuits.

For the young MMA fighter, beating wrestling's 'best in the world' would be a huge milestone in his career- his lottery ticket to stardom.

"Let me tell you, I hope it's soon. I think it's going to be this summer, which I can do. I can wait. I'm training and I'm getting better and what I can't wait for is to get my fight with CM Punk, beat CM Punk and then get started with the UFC roster," said Gall as per Fox Sports.
