Bill Cosby Molestation Update: No Charges for Veteran Comedian in Playboy Mansion Claim
Bill Cosby will not be charged with a crime over Judy Huth's lawsuit accusing the comedian of molesting her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said the statute of limitations has run out on any possible case, reported the Boston Herald.
"Given that 40 years have passed since the alleged incident, prosecution... is declined due to the expiration of the statue of limitations," the prosecutors said in a court document according to The Indian Express.
"Therefore, prosecution today for any potential felony sex crime from 1974 would also be barred."
Judy Huth, now 55, filed the lawsuit earlier this month, claiming he plied her with alcohol and molested her when she was 15 in a bedroom of the Playboy Mansion.
The alleged assault is one of a series of around two dozen disturbing sexual assault accusations made against Cosby, according to The Hollywood Gossip. Although he is yet to be charged with a crime, the growing pile of accusations have affected his reputation. He has lost an NBC sitcom and a Netflix stand-up special.
Cosby's lawyer Martin Singer has vocally denied Huth's claims, saying that Huth and her attorney in the civil litigation, Marc Strecker, tried to extort money from the 77-year-old and filed the lawsuit when they failed to do so.
"Over and over again, we have refuted these new unsubstantiated stories with documentary evidence, only to have a new uncorroborated story crop up out of the woodwork," Singer said in a statement. "When will it end? It is long past time for this media vilification of Mr. Cosby to stop."
Both Cosby's wife and daughter have come out in support of Cosby this week. "He is the FATHER you thought you knew," said his daughter Evin Cosby in a statement.
