Country Rocker Craig Wayne Boyd Named “The Voice” Seventh Season Winner
Craig Wayne Boyd was named the winner of the seventh season of "The Voice" Tuesday. He is the third country singer to win the NBC competition.
The next America's musical superstar belted out "Sweet Home Alabama" on stage with the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, reported The Hollywood Gossip. He previously awed the audience and coaches when he performed an original song "My Baby's Got a Smile On Her Face," originally written for his coach, Shelton Blake.
The country singer is the fourth win for country star Blake Shelton, according to Star Tribune.
"There has never been a more deserving person to hold that trophy than Craig Wayne Boyd," Shelton said.
Boyd was up against three finalists from Adam Levine's team: Matt McAndrew who took second place, Chris Jamison who nabbed third and Damien who got fourth.
"We went into this thing with the odds stacked against us," Shelton said Tuesday after the finale. "Will I rub it in Adam's face? He may quit the show before I'm done rubbing this in his face!"
The 35-year-old singer from Nashville Tennessee told reporters of his struggles to make ends meet while pursuing his dreams.
"It truly feels like validation that all the hard work that I put in up to this point has been worth it. I remember more than a year ago ... saying 'listen I may have to quit because it's not paying my bills. I'm losing my house, lost my pickup.' I didn't know what I was going to do."
Boyd wins a record deal and the $100,000 grand prize.
The star-studded two-hour finale featured performances from Jennifer Hudson, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson, Jessie J, Meghan Trainor and Hozier.
