Instagram Just Got a Huge Makeover and Change of Logo Design

From this day forward, Instagram's original iconic logo with resemblance to an early Polaroid camera is getting huge makeover, a total refresh that is. Facebook-owned image-sharing app is rolling out a decidedly different but more simplified logo design and interface.

The new logo will feature a more abstract yet streamlined camera design with circular lens in the middle. In the top-right corner is a viewfinder atop warm color mixture ranging from orange to purple. As per Sydney Morning Herald, the new app logo seems pretty in line with the current flat design trend which is increasingly becoming more conspicuous in the digital sector.

It's not just the main app that's getting a refreshed look. All of Instagram-related apps are also getting icon design makeover with the same bright and colorful attributes. The changes are now applied to its suite of apps that includes Hyperlapse, Boomerang, and Layout according to The Next Web.

The question looming on everyone's head is what's with all these makeover nonsense? While the logo design makeover is getting quite a lot of positive reviews, many traditionalists are still yearning for the old look.

"Brands, logos, and products develop deep connections and associations with people, so you don't just want to change them for the sake of novelty," remarked Ian Spalter, Instagram's chief designer as quoted by Refinery 29. "But the Instagram logo and design was beginning to feel, well... not reflective of the community, and frankly we thought we could make it better."

Some tech analysts seem to agree with Instagram's decision to go different. From an aesthetic standpoint, the icon and the interface design weren't that bad but they weren't that good either.

In addition, it's probably time for an interface revamp for better functionality. Since going online in 2010, Instagram has become one of the fastest-growing social media platforms that specialize on image (and increasingly video) sharing. According to Wired Magazine, more than 400 million users are uploading photos on the image-sharing platform on a monthly basis which translates to 80 million pictures each day that generate around 3.5 billion likes every day.

Despite the criticisms, photo-conscious Instagram users won't probably rush to delete their accounts over their displeasure of the recently tweaked look. After all, major social media platforms like Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter changed their design look as they age in time causing ridiculous outrage at the beginning. Eventually, people just got used to it.
