Alcohol Can Give You Only Momentary Happiness: Study

Alcohol makes people happy only for brief moments in life while long hours of drinking can never make them satisfied, according to a new study.

Policy makers frequently split hairs about the impact of alcohol on human happiness. However, it has not often been studied for academic research. The economist's hypothesis says that every person should act rationally for their good, even if they are addicted to alcohol.

Dr. Ben Baumberg, a social policy expert, along with Dr. George MacKerron of the University of Sussex, used a traditional method of study and an iPhone-based app to investigate how alcohol and happiness change over time in humans.

The scientists concluded that there is no relation between happiness and drinking, once other factors such as illness affecting well-being are taken into account. When alcohol develops into a problem, it actually reduces the feelings of well-being, according to Ask Men

Other factors hence need to be also taken into account while determining the correlation between happiness and drinking. Even though the participants in the study are not the entire population, there is some strong evidence that the "pub talks" could be considered, according to Eurekalert.

Alcohol policy and regulation would be impacted and benefited by the research. Policymakers can also consider happiness in their cost-benefit evaluations, which would help them to arrive at better and clear decisions regarding those policies that would benefit the entire population and those that would not.
