American actress and singer, Audra McDonald and husband Will Swenson are expecting their first child together, with the star making the happy announcement on Twitter on Tuesday, May 10.

She has appeared on the stage in both musicals and dramas, such as Ragtime, A Raisin in the Sun, and Porgy and Bess. She maintains an active concert and recording career, performing song cycles and operas as well as performing in concert throughout the U.S. She has won six Tony Awards, more performance wins than any other actor, and is the only person to win all four acting categories. She also starred in the ABC television drama Private Practice as Dr. Naomi Bennett.

McDonald who is 45 years old wrote, "Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead 2 pregnancy? @thewillswenson & I are completely surprised but elated 2 b expecting."

The pregnancy has led McDonald to postpone her West End debut with Lady Day, which was set to open in London this summer. Still, bringing a little one into the world has its share of perks, with the Private Practice alum adding on Twitter, "In other news ... I may have had 3 croissants today."

She said in a statement. "Will and I are completely surprised - and elated - to be expecting a new addition to our family. I am so very grateful to everyone in New York and London for allowing me to rearrange my schedule to accommodate this little miracle. While I'm disappointed I have to postpone my West End debut in Lady Day, I'm glad I'll be able to spend a little more time in Shuffle Along this summer and will look forward to setting up a 1920s-themed nursery in my dressing room when I return to the show."

The pair wed in 2012 and they have a daughter, Zoe, 15, and fellow Broadway star Swenson, 42, has sons Bridger, 13, and Sawyer, 10, from their previous marriages.
