WWE News and Rumors: Another Star Released from the WWE as Purge Continues
The WWE has always been a bit ruthless when it comes to the subject of releasing ageing wrestlers from their contracts and over the years, plenty of legends have bowed out of the company under a cloud. However, the recent purge that has seen the company release some big names like Wade Barrett, Santino Marella and others, has well and truly come as a shock for many fans and the latest move by the company in this regard has left many in shock yet again. Continuing with their latest campaign, the WWE has released much loved star the Brooklyn Bomber (real name Steve Lombardi) from his contract and brought his 30 year association with the company to an end out of nowhere. Although it is true that Lombardi will never be considered among the greatest of wrestlers, it can't be stressed enought how important he was to the company in the production process in recent years and the way he identified new talents who could be promoted to bigger events.
He remains one of the most iconic personalities in the history of the WWE, maybe not because of a hugely successful wrestling career but primarily because of his long term association with the company and for wrestling as a different range of characters, the most famous among them being the Brooklyn Bomber. The WWE has not provided any reason as to why they decided to part ways with the 55 year old after he had been such a loyal servant of the company for three decades and it is not a surprise that WWE fans consider it as a hige shock that the last link to the golden age of wrestling is now lost with this latest move by the company. It would be interesting to see what Lombardi decides to do after this setback since many believe that he has a lot to offer to the world of professional wrestling.
