Tim Tebow News And Rumors Update: Dak Prescott A Better Player Than The Broncos Quarterback?
The Dallas Cowboys has recently chosen quarterback Dak Prescott from Mississippi State with their No. 135 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft with hopes of shaping him into a real pro.
The Mississippi QB is considered a high-ceiling but low floor footballer who belonged to second class of quarterbacks who qualified for this year's NFL draft which include fellow draftees like Paxton Lynch Cardale Jones and well behind cream-of-the-crop players like Jared Goff and Carson Wentz.
Despite having quite a remarkable college football career, Prescott has been repeatedly compared to former SEC QB Tim Tebow who failed at transitioning his NCAA success to the professional level. The Cowboys are warming up their 2016 draftee some action at rookie minicamp. The question that looms on everyone's mind is how to transform the Louisiana native's mechanical tools of the game to something useful.
When quizzed for what makes Prescott a valuable draft pick, the Cowboys seemed to have been seduced by the inexplicable and intangible game quality the player has.
"When the Cowboys selected Dak Prescott in the fourth round of last week's draft, the first thing mentioned wasn't the quarterback's arm or his feet or his ability to create. Rather it was the 'it' factor," wrote Todd Archer of ESPN.
Back in league's 2010 draft, former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow was similarly described following his 25th round one draft pick. As per Fansided, he was apparently selected not for some statistical-based performance but for an intangible 'winning mentality' plus an indescribable 'it' factor- whatever it was.
Nevertheless, Prescott remains the best QB the Mississippi State ever had as per records. According to SB Nation, he posted the highest passing record, total yards, touchdowns, completion, passing efficiency, lowest interception percentage, and many other football records for the school.
While some pundits may argue endlessly that the Cowboys may regret picking him, former Cowboys VP of player personnel Gil Brandt thinks otherwise.
"Well let me say this to you and you're going to laugh when I tell you this. [Prescott] is a better football player than Tim Tebow. He's a better football player than Tim Tebow. You're going to laugh when I say that because Tebow was a first-round pick because he was on a very, very good team at Florida. But this guy is a better football player," Brandt said as quoted by Sports Day.
