The WWE is one of the most popular sports entertainment franchises in the world and over the past decades, it has made the careers of hundreds of wrestlers who have gone on to become big brands in their own right outside the wrestling wring. However, at the same time the company is known for making decisions that might look baffling at the surface level and in one such move, it has emerged that the WWE has released eight wrestlers including some super stars from their contracts in a move that would come as a shock to most fans. The WWE released a statement in its official website WWE.COM in which it was stated that the company was severing ties with  Wade Barrett, Hornswoggle , Santino Marella Zeb Colter, El Torito Alex Riley,Cameron and Damien Sandow with immediate effect. Surprisingly the company did not provide any reasons as to why they released those stars from the contract.

Wade Barrett has been one of the more popular heel characters in the industry for some time and his work with the League of Nations was particularly popular among wrestling fans. In fact, he also featured at Wrestlemania this year as part of the League of Nations. On the other hand, Damien Sandow's situation comes as a bigger surprise since he performed at WWE Raw this past week and had a very successful stint earlier as the 'stunt double of The Miz. Wade Barrett took to twitter and stated that he had planned to take a break from wrestling and had decided to terminate his contract a 'few weeks early'.

Both Santino Marella, who had held the Intercontinental Championship in the past and El Torito had been suffering from injuries and it seems they would not be able to compete in top level wrestling for some time. Over the past few days, plenty of stars like Mark Henry have expressed their discomfort at being eased out fo the company but it seems that the company is going in a new direction.
