WWE News and Rumors: Older WWE Stars Like Mark Henry and Co. Are Being Eased out of the Company
The WWE is known for easing out super stars once they are a bit over the hill in terms of age and it is something that has happened in the industry ever since it started back in the day. Reputations are not often the respected when it comes to replacing the old with the new and it seems that the WWE is going to put a greater emphasis on younger stars in the immediate future, which is why the older super star who had enthralled audiences for years might be eased out of the business. According to the highly influential Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the company is now looking to invest in youth and slowly ease out older stars like Mark Henry and Big Show over the course of the next few months.
Mark Henry and Big Show, who are both 4 years old have found their roles in the company severely curtailed over the past few months and one of the big reasons for that is the fact that the creative team at the company are not sure regarding the direction of their storyline as the company embraks on a new era. Right from the time Wrestlemania of this year, the company has displayed a clear shift towards the younger generation of WWE super stars and during that period long time performers like Mark Henry, Big Show and The Big Red Machine Kane have found themselves in the cold and have not featured in the flagship weekly shows of the WWE. The latest development has cased a lot of heartburn among the stars since there is no doubt that although they might be on the wrong side as far their age is concerned, they are still a big draw among hardcore WWE fans. Moreover, they remain a link to the golden age of WWE, the Attitude Era of the later 1990s and early '00s.
Mark Henry had in fact stated about his position in the past, "I don't know how I let Vince [McMahon] convince me into signing another contract back in 2013. He did a bit of magic. He's got that magic where you just go in the office and he'll talk you into it. I won't be signing any more contracts. I'm an elder statesman. This is a young guy business and I'm 100 percent for it. I love the marketing process. I love the international marketing. I love the talent development, but those are all things I'll work with the company on to make sure that our business continues to thrive, but there's a bunch of other stuff that I plan on doing."
