‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12, ‘Mama Tried’ Review and News Update: Callie and Arizona’s Bitter Battle Plays Out in Court
Every viewer knew that it was coming, but no one had thought that it would turn out so badly. Episode 22 of Grey's Anatomy would definitely be remembered by the audience for tearing hearts apart and estranging one of the most adorable couples- Callie and Arizona.
It all started with the duo reaching the court where the proceedings begin. Owen and Meredith supported Callie while Arizona had Webber and DeLuca on her side. Though no one said anything indecent, Penny was caught on the wrong side. When asked which grade Sofia is in and what she was wearing the present morning, Penny screwed up, dimming Callie's chances.
But Arizona's lawyers could not capitalize on this weak point either as her hectic hospital schedule was targeted. She was also cornered on the topic of Richards and her last moment requests to Callie to take over Sofia's duties. All this left Arizona deeply wounded as she had never imagined Callie would allow these things to come up.
Further, Callie tells the judge how she fought to stay alive through her car accident on the day Sofia was born. When Arizona takes the stand, the lawyer indicates her weak claim, owing to the fact that she does not share DNA with Sofia. At this very moment, Arizona's phone starts ringing incessantly and she has to excuse herself to attend.
She leaves for the hospital as someone's life is at stake, but not before making an impassioned speech which leaves Callie shocked. The latter tries to reach out to Arizona later outside the courthouse, but she rebuffs her for letting those things come up. And then we see a sobbing Callie being comforted by Meredith. Well, Arizona gets the custody.
Now this was really heart wrenching. Callie is the biological mom and loves Sofia. She does not deserve the bereavement, but neither does Arizona. Had the couple talked out it out, at least, both would have got a chance to be with Sofia and the fortune of avoiding the nasty court drama.
