Houston Texans Sign QB Case Keenum
The Houston Texans are reportedly in the process of signing quarterback Case Keenum in order to fill an empty roster spot after losing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on Sunday.
Keenum started eight games with the Texans in 2013 after joining the team as a free agent in 2012. He completed 54 percent of his passes for 1,760 yards, and threw nine touchdowns and six interceptions. Keenum was with the Texans during the preseason but was waived on Aug. 30 to make room for quarterback Ryan Mallett. Keenum then joined the St. Louis Rams' practice squad.
Fitzpatrick started the first nine games of the season, but was replaced by Mallett. After just two weeks, Mallett suffered a torn pectoral muscle during the Nov.23 game against the Bengals, making Fitzpatrick the starting quarterback once again. After the injury, the Texans signed free agent, veteran quarterback Thad Lewis to fill a roster spot.
During this Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, Fitzpatrick's run as the starting quarterback ended when he broke his leg. The Texans' string of bad luck with their quarterbacks did not end there. Rookie quarterback, Tom Savage, who entered the game after Fitzpatrick left, was hit hard at the very end of the game. Savage stated that he was okay but was seen limping off of the field. Savage will undergo an MRI.
The Texans (7-7), who still have a shot at the playoffs, will host the Baltimore Ravens (9-5) next Sunday.
