Jonathan Paul Manziel, an American football quarterback who is a free agent, was drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was nationally recruited out of high school as a dual-threat quarterback. But, now he is in trouble!

Johnny Manziel posted bond Wednesday in his misdemeanor assault case after turning himself in to police in a Dallas suburb. The Texas A&M University star has been accused of beating in January his then-girlfriend Colleen Crowley, a Houston-born model. Crowley has sued Manziel claiming to struck her numerous times during a domestic altercation Jan. 30. She also has claimed the athlete dragged her by the hair and threatened to kill both of them.

The TMZ reported that Manziel was at the headquarters of the Highland Park Department of Public Safety only for a short time and was "polite and cooperative" before posting $1,500 bail.

"Johnny Football" may face as long as a year in jail in the event if he is found guilty.

Manziel is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. His former coach at Texas A&M, Kevin Sumlin, told 98.7-FM radio in Phoenix that Manziel hasn't responded to Sumlin's effort to reach out to him. "I had texted him a couple of times and given him a call, but haven't got a return back," Sumlin said. "So from that standpoint, it's a little unnerving."

He was cut by the Browns in March after the accusation of domestic violence against Crowley. However, the team has had other issues with Manziel, who underwent alcohol and drug treatment in Pennsylvania last year, as CNN reported.

"I owe private apologies to a lot of people that I disappointed, but a very public one to the Browns organization and the fans that I let down," Manziel said after leaving a rehab center in April 2015.
