Saban's Power Rangers' Reboot Update: More Details For Rita Repulsa's Costume Revealed
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot has finally started production after a long hiatus that spawned two decades since the original movie was shown. The 90's cult classic is a nostalgic revival of a story that many grown-ups now (but kids back then) are familiar with.
A five-man team (and occasionally six with White or Green Ranger Tommy) composed of five high-schoolers suddenly became heroes in brightly-colored spandex as they fight their arch-enemy, Rita Repulsa, now played by Elizabeth Banks.
Recently, snaps of Rita Repulsa's costume has made rounds in the web as Banks take on the iconic villain role quite different from original TV and movie version. Minus the oversized horns that most 90's kids were used to, the new version of the antagonist still has a lot of interesting theatrics up her sleeves.
Earlier released photos, showed Banks donning a green-colored suit and headgear with fearsome sharp-looking golden talons making her looked battle-ready. As per Games Radar, the new snaps streaming out lately reveal a more ragged and worn-down Repulsa in black follows the villain's escape from prison where she got locked up for 10 millennia.
As described by Ace Showbiz, Repulsa looks different after her prison break in torn skirt and worn top which looks like sewn ropes to cover her chest plus a menacing eye-makeup to match her ragged evil aura.
Now that she's free, Repulsa is surely on warpath footing as she jumpstarts with a vengeful return thereby explaining her origins and how the 21st-century Power Rangers came into being.
With contrasting images released online, fans are wondering whether Rita Repulsa has the powerful Dragon coin which allows her to infiltrate the Rangers team through Green Ranger who will assume leadership position upon getting inside as per Screen Rant.
Another speculation drawn from the photos is that the six objects shown corresponding to each of the colors in the Power Rangers lineup may be weapons or front end of the Rangers' motorcycles. She was also pictured smooching on Pink Ranger Kimberly which seemed like sucking the life out of the poor heroine.
A joint project by Lionsgate and Saban films, the reboot is directed by Dean Israelite with Naomi Scott, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, and Elizabeth Banks filling in the main cast. The upcoming flick is due to hit the cinemas on January 13, 2017.
