Che Guevara’s Son Offers ‘Motorcycle Diaries’-Like Tours From $3,000 Onwards
Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara's youngest son has opened a travel agency that offers 'Motorcycle Diaries'-styled tours of the Caribbean island nation on Harley Davidsons.
Guevara's moustachioed, beret-wearing image has been used in selling t-shirts, mugs and now tours too. The Marxist revolutionary was very passionate about motorcycles and this passion of his might do some real good to his son Ernesto Guevara.
The price of the trips ranges from $3,000 per person for a six-day tour, while $5,800 for a nine-day trip, depending upon the kind of accommodation the customer chooses. Costs for airlines will be charged extra.
The website of La Poderosa Tours states: "[Ernesto Guevara] inherited from his father the passion for motorcycles which enables him to travel his country and to know it as few [others]. Proud of his people, he has always longed to share the experience of enjoying the beauties of his country with friends and the brotherhood of motorists visiting the island. Ernesto will fulfil your dreams but also [develop] his," the Independent reports.
During the tour, one can get a glimpse of "the varied landscapes of this beautiful island," and also stay in "intimate contact with a part of the history of a unique revolution." The tour also offers a visit to the revolutionary's base in colonial Havana. It also includes a stop at the key 1958 battle site of Santa Clara, The Daily Star reports.
Che Guevara's famous motorbike journey through South America took place between Secember 1951 to July 1952 and was depicted in the 2004 film "Motorcycle Diaries". The movie was directed by Walter Salles and starred Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal. During that tour, the young Guevara travelled to Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.
