Manchester United Transfer News: Manchester United Want Real Madrid Star Toni Kroos

Manchester United are going to go on a major player acquisition spree in the summer in order to replenish their struggling squad ahead of the 2016-17 season and one of the players that they are actively pursuing is Real Madrid's German central midfielder Toni Kroos. Manchester United had been in pursuit of Kroos back in 2014 but the new manager at the time Louis Van Gaal put his foot down on any deal and instead the player went to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in a deal of around £20 million. It seems that it was Louis van Gaal who was not particularly impressed by the midfielder but his decision to instead bring in an ageing Bastian Schweinsteiger looked even more puzzling. Most of the hierarchy at United had been under the impression that Kross was a done deal but Van Gaal decided otherwise and it remains one of those glaring missed opportunities for the club who have had plenty of them in the recent past.

One of the most problematic areas for Manchester United over the course of the 2015-16 season has been the midfield, since the players who have been deployed at different points in the season have not been able to control the flow of the game and the team has turned so boring that there is open mutiny in the stands at Old Trafford these days. Moreover, the midfield stars like Michael Carrick and Schweinsteiger have not been able to replicate the form of years past while the younger players like Herrera and Mata have been disappointing overall. Kross will add much needed world class quality to the central midfield position and help control the play from deep, a quality that United have missed sorely over the course of the past two seasons.

Real Madrid themselves are trying to rebuild their squad next season and they might cash in on their German super star in the summer transfer window to give United the chance to take the player to Old Trafford. A deal could be done before or after the European Championships.
