Supergirl Season 1 Review and News Update: The Showrunners Nailed It!
CBS's Supergirl series has been appreciated by all for a flawless season. A major part of the appreciation goes to the lead Supergirl, a character played by actress Melissa Benoist.
In the Supergirl series, Benoist beautifully played a dual role depicting the determination that Kara Zor-El is infused with and the vulnerability that Kara Danvers is subjected to. The strong, intense and capable character has also been applauded for being well-written.
The best part about Benoist's character is that she not only acts practically, but also makes mistakes and owns up to them. The series looked more like a successor to Donner's Superman or Lois & Clark, rather than to bear resemblance with the previous Superman flicks seen in Snyder films.
The Supergirl character has been particularly praised for its talent and wits. For the fans, it was amazing to see the Supergirl steer through a situation by talking through it and with a calm behavior, rather than to just punch through the situation.
According to reports, the show was considered its best when the Supergirl behaved naturally and did what a character with super powers is expected to do - save people, chase cars, stop bank robberies, rescue people from burning buildings and towers. However, one of the flaws of the show was the introduction of the DEO.
The fact that the Supergirl had a headquarter of its own, run by a secret government did not really gel well with the fundamental formula of the show. Instead, it got into the way how Kara performs her duties in her own ways.
Overall in Supergirl Season 1, Kara develops a strong relationship with three main characters: J'onn J'onzz (David Harewood), Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh). Grant played the main punching role throughout the season by throwing witty one-liners and becoming Kara's most important source of inspiration.
