Manchester United are poised to go on a major rebuilding operation in the summer after a disappointing season in which they struggled to score too many goals and as a result, the club has been under pressure to recruit proven goal scorers for the 2016-17 season. According to reports published in the well known French publication L'Equipe the Manchester club are interested in signing French Ligue 1 club's prolific striker Alexandre Lazacette in the summer and in fact, the French striker has been observed by United's scouts plenty of times throughout the 2015-16 season which means that the club are genuinely interested in the striker. What is even more important is that the striker has expressed a desire to play in the English Premier League after his time in the French Ligue for many years and his prolific goal scoring record has meant that some of the top clubs in the league are now interested in signing him.

Although it is true that Anthony Martial has been a revelation following his move from Monaco last summer and youth product Marcus Rashford has recently shouldered the goal scoring responsibilities for the club, the club has still struggled to score the desired number of goals. The exits of Robin van Persie and Chicarito, coupled with the poor form of club captain Wayne Rooney has kept the striker position frightfully bare for a club whichopes to compete at the higher echelons of European football.

However, it might not be as straightfoward for Manchester United when it comes to signing the highly rated 24 year old French international since other English Premier League heavyweights like Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in signing the striker. In fact, in the January transfer window earlier this year, Lyon had agreed on a £22 million move to Newcastle United for Lazacette but the move fell through at the last moment. In such a situation, a bidding war for the striker's signature might commence in the summer transfer window among the heavy hitters of the English Premier League and Manchester United might have to break the bank for acquiring the player.
