Men Dumber than Women, Fatal Accident Study Confirms
It's official. Men are idiots and idiots do stupid things.
A new study published in the British Medical Journal may have just struck the gavel in centuries' long debate to determine which of the two sexes is stupider. The study analysed Darwin awards, presented to acknowledge the stupid ways in which people die, to find that men are more stupid than women lending credence to the Male Idiot Theory (MIT), The Telegraph reported.
"This paper reports marked sex differences in the distribution of Darwin Award winners, with males much more likely to receive an award. This finding is entirely consistent with male idiot theory (MIT) and supports the hypothesis that men are idiots and idiots do stupid things," researchers wrote in the journal.
According to researchers, "winners of the Darwin Award must die in such an idiotic manner that their action ensures the long-term survival of the species, by selectively allowing one less idiot to survive."
Thus, analysing awardees between 1995 and 2014, researchers found that 282 awardees were men while just 36 were women, reports Discovery News. Some of the examples the study cited included the terrorist who opened letter bomb which he had posted but was returned due to shortage of stamps, and a man who shot himself in the head with a spy pen just to demonstrate to his friend it was real.
The study also pointed out gender differences in alcohol use could tilt stupidity towards men, CNBC reported.
"Anecdotal data support the hypothesis that alcohol makes men feel "bulletproof" after a few drinks, and it would be naïve to rule this out. For example, the three men who played a variation on Russian roulette alternately taking shots of alcohol and then stamping on an unexploded Cambodian land mine. The mine eventually exploded, demolishing the bar and killing all three men," researchers said.
