Boston Red Sox Trade: Yoenis Cespedes going to the Tigers
The Boston Red Sox have acquired a starting pitcher after losing Jon Lester to the Chicago Cubs. According to multiple media reports, the Red Sox have agreed to a deal with the Detroit Tigers early Thursday morning.
In the trade, the Red Sox will send outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and reliever Alex Wilson in exchange for right-hander, Rick Porcello. Porcello, 25, is in his final year of arbitration. He had a career best season last year going 15-13 with a 3.43 ERA. He had 129 strikeouts and 41 walks over 204.2 innings. In his six-year career with the Tigers, Porcello went 76-63 with a 4.30 ERA.
Cespedes, who played for the Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics last year, had a combined total of 22 homeruns and 100 RBI with a .464 slugging percentage. He became a first time All-Star in 2014 and will join two-time AL MVP Miguel Cabrera in Detroit. Cespedes, 29, is in his last year of his $36 million, four-year contract.
Wilson had a short stint with the Red Sox last season. He posted a 1.91 ERA in 18 outings.
The Tigers are also reportedly finalizing another trade for a starting pitcher. There are currently no details on who is involved in that trade. The Red Sox are set to acquire starting pitcher Wade Miley from the Arizona Diamondbacks, several sources reported.
The deal was first reported by Fox Sports 1's Tiger C.J. Nitkowski.
