Amazon Kindle Oasis: A Look at Its Features and Price
For nearly 10 years since its introduction to bookworms by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the company has been consistent with its enduring philosophy of making its e-reading device, the Kindle, as similar to paper as possible.
"We want Kindle to disappear, and Kindle Oasis is the next big step in that mission ... it gets out of the way so you can lose yourself in the author's world," said the Amazon exec as quoted by USA Today.
With the arrival of Kindle Oasis, the e-commerce giant is taking its famed e-reader to a whole new level. Overall, it is the most aesthetically desirable and deliciously functional e-reader to date - brighter, smaller, and thinner while armed with the longest battery life. All of these attributes come with hefty price tag starting with $290 as reported by The Verge.
For a pricey e-reading device, Oasis elegantly combines utilitarian functionality with finishing aesthetic touches which takes its users to a simulated paper book experience as one flips from one page to another.
Like its 2014 predecessor, the Kindle Voyage, the latest flagship sports a 6-inch 300 dpi display and 4GB of storage offering enough to keep thousands of electronic books. But Oasis is a lot brighter with 10 LEDs and lighter with its 0.29 lb. frame (without cover) as reported by MacWorld.
But is the $290 price tag worth it?
Many pundits think the function should cost more than half the price but Oasis is crafted for desirability with awesome visuals and sleek tactile design- a luxury for those who want their digital reading device feel a little more like paper book.
As a testament to the philosophy behind the craft, the Oasis also comes with leather battery cover available in three colors- black, brown, and red. Its multi-week battery life should extend to undisclosed months of standby time.
Previously, tech sites had been filled with alleged inclusion of waterproof design but the rumor did not prove accurate along with claims of a more enhanced processor speed.
For readers who prefer functionality over secondary perks, Oasis may be a tough sell. But for Kindle users who desire a little extra, the e-reader is a luxurious indulgence that comes at a heavier cost.
