'Another Day in the Death of America' Rumors and Casting News: David Oyelowo to Star in Gun Dramaa
The culture of gun violence has proved to be a deep malaise in America and now comes a movie based on Guardian journalist Gary Younge's book that highlights the misery and pain it inflicts on people's soul.
According to reports, "Another Day in the Death of America" is slated to be adapted into a movie. It will star David Oyelowo who is also co-producing it. Other producers include Allegiance Theater and Double E Pictures, who have acquired lifetime rights of the book. Author Younge serves as the executive producer along with Tim Crane.
The book, to be published in September by Guardian Faber tells the haunting tale of 10 random children who were shot dead on November 23, 2013. It is an investigative take on the killings of the children, the youngest of whom was nine years old and the eldest nineteen. The killings were not reported by the media and did not become national news, but Younge was perturbed by the deaths.
He picked up investigations into the case and went through a grueling exploration exercise for 18 months. He did a detailed study on the lives of the victims. And the result came out in the form of this touching book that highlights the menace of gun culture in America. It portrays the contemporary reality of the country where every day about seven children and teens fall prey to gunfire.
It is worth mentioning here that that writer Gary Younge was awarded the David Nyhan Prize for Political Journalism by Harvard University in 2015. He is the editor-at-large for the Guardian.
As for David Oyelowo, he is a well-known actor who is currently busy with the sci-fi thriller "God Particle" and will be seen in Mira Nair's "The Queen of Katwe" and Amma Asante's "A United Kingdom". The actor has played the iconic role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the biographical drama Selma, for which he also got a Golden Globe Award nomination.
