Real Madrid News: Ronaldo Sets New La Liga Goalscoring Record
Even though Real Madrid are struggling in their quest to win either the Spanish La Liga or the UEFA Champions League, one thing that has remained constant this season is the prolific goal scoring record of their talismanic forward Cristiano Ronaldo. In the La Liga game against Eibar that took place on Sunday, Ronaldo scored once in a 4-0 win for the Los Blancos to take his total tally of La Liga goals to 30 and achieved the distinction of being the first payer ever in the La Liga to have scored 30 or more goals in six consecutive seasons.
Ronaldo arrived at Real Madrid from Manchester United following a record breaking £80 million move back in 2009 and throughout his time at the Santiago Bernabau, he has clocked 30 plus goals in the La Liga which is a staggering achievement considering the fact that his arch rival Lionel Messi has not been replicate that record during his time at Barcelona. Ronaldo was particularly prolific in the La Liga in the 2014-15 season when he plundered 48 goals in the whole season and currently his total tally of 255 goals remains the 2nd highest in La Liga history behind Lionel Messi's 308. However, it must be pointed out that Ronaldo has notched up his goals in 232 appearances as opposed to Messi's 342.
Ronaldo is well and truly a once in a life time goal scorer who has set the La Liga alight right from the time he joined in 2009. However, it is also important to point out that the 31 year old might be on his way out of the club in the summer of 2016 if certain reports in the media are to be believed and the two clubs pursuing him are his former club Manchester United and Ligue 1 club Paris Saint Germain. The Real Madrid hierarchy believe that the summer of 2016 could be the right time for them to cash in on their prime asset as they look to go on a rebuilding phase following a disappointing season. It is believed that Real Madrid are holding out for a fee of £80 million for the forward.
