Manchester City Transfer News: Pep Guardiola Wants to Bring Borussia Dortmund Super Star to Manchester City
Manchester City are all set to tempt Borussia Dortmund with a massive bid for their super star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if reports in the French publication Le10 Sport are to be believed. The Gabonese footballer, who can play both as a winger and a striker has set the German Bundesliga on fire with a tally of 36 goals in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund in the 2015-16 and it is not a surprise that some of the biggest clubs in Europe are now pursuing his signature. Manchester City's incoming coach is not exactly thrilled with the striking options at the club other than Sergio Aguerro and feels that the team's frontline can be boosted with the addition of the reigning African Player of the Year to its ranks.
Aubameyang joined Borussia Dortmund in 2013 and over the past two seasons, he has become the attacking focal point of the team with his darting runs, pace, supreme finishing capabilities and an eye for goal. However, signing him would not be straightforward since first of all Dortmund would not want to let go of their star striker who is going to be a key member of their UEFA Champions League campaign next seasons and secondly, other clubs are also also interested in signing the player. English Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United are both interested in signing him as both clubs chase a new striker in the summer transfer window and that could drive up his price further.
There is no information on the existence of a release clause in Aubameyang's contract but it has been widely reported that only a substantially large bid could draw Borussia Dortumund to the negotiating table and that has been confirmed by the club's chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke. He said, "If at any time an offer of €100m [£78m] or €120m [£95m] for Aubameyang comes to us, then we will discuss," However, it must be said that Manchester City do have the required financial strength to go as far as possible if they are determined to bring the player to the club.
