Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date, News and Rumors: Microsoft to Push Release of Surface Phone To Make Way for Surface Pro 5 Launch This Year
According to recent news about the launch plans of Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5, it looks like the two may be released in the second half of this year. Rather than pushing the launch of its laptops, the tech giant has decided to postpone their Windows phone until early 2017.
Microsoft will be releasing not one but three models of Windows Surface phone that will be powered by the latest version of Windows 10 Mobile. According to this report, the users will be able to choose from a budget Surface phone, a high-end one and an enterprise phone that is designed for professional use. Regardless of the version they choose, all these devices will have the ability to convert into a desktop, a unique feature that is being introduced by Microsoft with their next line of phones.
As far as the hybrid laptops are concerned, the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 will continue from where their predecessors left-off.
The most notable hardware and feature upgrade that the next-generation of hybrid devices come equipped with are 4K display, USB Type-C port and improved battery life. There will also be a magnetic Surface Pen that will self-charge when docked on Surface device.
The new Surface laptops are also expected to feature Intel's Kaby Lake Processing Chip that will offer improved CPU and GPU performance. However, the reports indicate that if the company is planning ti use Kaby Lake then it can cause significant delay in the release of these laptops. This is because the new Intel Chip architecture will be optimized with Redstone 2.
Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2's release date should, technically, follow Windows 10 Anniversary Update that will start rolling out in June 2016.
