NFL Trade Rumors: NY Jets Trade Muhammad Wilkerson to the Chicago Bears?
NFL Trade rumors are swirling around, especially as the Draft comes closer and closer. One main topic of trade rumors conversation is Muhammad Wilkerson from the Jets. Rumors are spreading that the Bears might accept the trade after all.
The Jets are eagerly looking to trade defensive end Wilkerson. Many football fans are wondering what the team will do with Wilkerson and what team they will trade him to.
However, because of Wilkerson's hefty contract (requesting $50 million) and compensation for the Jets (who are likely looking for a first round pick), the trade is not coming around as easy, reports ESPN. If the Jets don't trade him, then the team faces $15.7 million for the 2016 season.
The Jets' defensive end is said to have pretty good stats, including his age. NJ reports that Peter King of Sports Illustrated spoke of the pros of having Wilkerson.
"I think if you want Muhammad Wilkerson of the Jets, you'd better offer more than a low first-round pick. This is one of the five best defensive linemen in football, by any measure. He's 26. Other than the fluky broken leg suffered at the end of last season, his health is fine. That injury is the only argument any team could make that Wilkerson is not worth, say, picks in the first and third or fourth round."
Many sports news reporters are now saying hat a trade with the Chicago Bears seems most likely.
It's rumored that the Bears might make the trade for Wilkerson, but there isn't any word as to who they would trade off.
Windy City Gridiron reporter states, "If the Bears were to offer the #11 overall pick in the 2016 Draft, the Jets would readily accept, but I would imagine the Bears would want to negotiate a long term contract before any trade is finalized."
