MLB Rumors: Giants, Yankees, Astros Offer Deals to Chase Headley
The latest rumors surrounding free agent Chase Headley suggest that the third baseman could be suiting up in pinstripes once again this April. Sources are reporting that Headley is no longer on the top of list for the San Francisco Giants.
Over the past few days, the Giants have been reportedly pushing to sign Headley. Ken Rosenthal with FOXSports.com tweeted a few days ago that the Giants were "turning aggressive on Headley." However, the rumors have died down. Some sources are stating that the Giants, who have been busy on the Jon Lester front, are not too keen on offering Headley a contract that would be longer than three-years, which could affect Headley's decision.
Rumors added that Headley was offered a four-year contract worth $65 million. Sources speculate that this offer was most likely made by the Houston Astros. Despite these speculations, two sources claimed that Headley might not be a priority for the Astros. With these two teams seemingly focused elsewhere, the Yankees could have a chance.
Jon Heyman with CBSSports.com wrote that the Yankees have recently met up with Headley and offered a three-year deal worth $39 million. The Yankees are reportedly open to adding another year to the deal, according to Buster Olney, senior baseball writer for ESPN the Magazine.
Headley played for the San Diego Padres and the Yankees last season, hitting .243 with 13 homeruns. He is a career .265 hitter.
