Carolina Panthers Cam Newton Involved in a Car Accident [UPDATE]
Carolina Panthers starting quarterback, Cam Newton has been involved in a car accident Tuesday at around 12:30 p.m.
According to multiple reports, Newton's truck, which he was reportedly driving, was involved in a collision with another car on the Church Street bridge over I-277 in uptown Charlotte, one block away from the Panthers stadium. Early pictures revealed an overturned vehicle surrounded by a lot of debris.
"We are closely monitoring the situation of a car wreck involving Cam Newton," the Panthers said in a statement. "We will have more information at an appropriate time."
Although details regarding the crash and Newton's extent of injuries are still unclear, a source close to ESPN's Ed Werder stated that Newton did not suffer any life- threatening injuries. WBTV also reported that a source with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department stated that Newton was placed on a stretcher and brought to the hospital as a precaution.
The Charlotte Observer has uploaded a photograph of the quarterback being attended by an officer while on the ground. In the photo, Newton appears to be conscious.
Newton has racked up 2,800 yards so far in passing with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season.
Update: Newton is reportedly in fair condition. The Panthers have stated that Newton "has two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries."
