Batman Vs Superman Update: Movie Falls 68% In Second Weekend, Warner Bros Reportedly Not 'Too Worried'
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has steadily plummeted in the second week at the box office. But Warner Bros. told The Hollywood Reporter that they're "not particularly worried" about the almost 70% slide every week.
"We're not concerned with the drop," Warner Bros. domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstein said. "No matter how you slice it, to get to $52 million on any given weekend is an enormous accomplishment. We're most focused on where we are in total. And our global number is huge."
He said that the movie has already overshot the "lifetime global take" of films such as Thor, The Wolverine, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Man of Steel.
Even though it might not be possible for Batman V Superman to get the astronomical returns on its investment, like Deadpool, it is possible that in a week, the superhero movie might dethrone it to scramble to the top "highest-grossing comic book movie" in the whole globe.
The production company has seen a number of flops, such as the final Harry Potter movie. While it was the only Warner Bros. film to open in a bigger way than Batman V Superman, it also suffered a bigger drop of 72% in the second week. Most of the money was made up in the global market of 60 last weekend. It got $680M from the overseas market, with over $400 million at the international box office.
The Warners had set their expectations high, hoping that they could have got a $1 billion-plus pickings in the global market. That, of course, would need to remain a dream.
However, the rumour went that before the release, even though they had pegged their hopes at $1 billion, they would consider it a success even at $800 million. The figure does seem attainable, although it looks like a rather tortuous journey, that might ultimately be made with a number of pitfalls.
