NBA Rumors: David Lee May Return To NY Knicks
As soon as the July offseason hits this year, David Lee will be a free agent and recently commented that the possibility of his comeback to the Knicks is something that he hasn't ruled out.
The rebounding stalwart indicated that Knicks may have an interest of getting him to the fold after revealing that the New York franchise inquired while he was negotiating his buyout from Boston Celtics around late February. At the time of the negotiations, Knicks had an open roster spot but he eventually went with the Dallas Mavericks.
"[It's] something we even discussed in the buyout process - had a conversation with them. These next eight games are most important and we'll deal with that later. ... I'll have some good choices. I'm looking forward to playing three, four more years. I feel my body feels as healthy as ever," revealed Lee as quoted by Empire Writes Back.
Looking back at his time with New York, Lee is positive that he would consider Knicks in the offseason. He was reportedly considered a favorite from owner James Dolan down to GM Steve Mills. In 2005 NBA, he was drafted as the 30th pick overall by the Big Apple franchise for his ability to be a double-double machine especially during Knicks' dark days.
"It's my favorite city in the world as far as spending time there in the offseason. A great organization. I always look back with a positive memory," said Lee as reported by the New York Post.
The 32-year-old rebounder is two-time All-Star player who averaged 20.2 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.0 steal on 54.5 percent shooting from the field during his last game season with the Knicks, Daily Knicks reported. His career with New York reportedly ended in 2010 when the team was bent on acquiring LeBron James but somehow wound up with injury-stricken Amar'e Stoudemire.
